The Frederick B. Lacey Foundation will award a minimum of four college scholarships each year to graduating seniors attending one of Newark's public high schools. The scholarship, to be known as the Frederick B. Lacey Scholarship, will be dedicated to assist each recipient with admission costs or to buy books, supplies, clothes, and other items needed for college.

As Judge Lacey attended Newark's West Side High School, the first four scholarships were awarded to five deserving seniors who graduated from West Side High in June 2021.

The 2022 awards, similar to 2021 will be based on each student' academic record, as well as his or her preparation of a paper describing how his/her elementary school education helped to prepare him/her to succeed in high school and to aspire to attend and graduate from college. The winners of the scholarships will be chosen by an advisory board appointed by the Foundation.
